Dental Concerns are normal and come in all shapes and sizes!  What’s normal?  What’s not.  Here are some of the top dental concerns and some advice to go with! #martindental

Baby Bottle Tooth Decay

If you want to prevent your baby from getting cavities or developing what is known as Baby Bottle Tooth Decay, start an oral hygiene routine right after birth.  The first step is to start cleaning your baby’s mouth by wiping the gums with a clean rag.  This will help remove any plaque that is on the gums that can harm erupting teeth.  When the teeth begin to come in, brush them gently with a small child’s toothbrush and use a small amount of fluoride toothpaste.  When bottle feeding, only give formula or milk/breast milk in the bottle.  Avoid any sugary beverages like juice or soda.  The bottle should be finished before bedtime or naptime.

Dental Emergencies  Dentist Around Me Queen Creek AZ

Accidents will happen….anytime and anywhere!  Knowing what to do and how to handle an emergency will make all the difference between saving and losing your child’s permanent tooth.  For any dental emergency, take your child to the dentist or ER as soon as possible.  Here are a few tips:  #smilewithconfidence

  • For a knocked-out tooth, keep it moist at all times.  Try placing the tooth back in the socket without touching the root.  If this isn’t possible, keep the tooth between your child’s cheek and gum, or in milk!  Call your dentist asap.
  • With a cracked tooth, rinse with warm water immediately.  Keep a cold compress on the face to help keep swelling down.
  • If the tongue or lip is bit, clean the area and apply a cold compress.  Dentist Around Me Queen Creek AZ
  • Toothaches can be handled by rinsing with warm water to clean the area.  Use dental floss to see if there is any food caught between the teeth.  Do NOT put aspirin directly on the aching tooth or gum tissue.
  • For any objects that are stuck in the mouth, remove gently with floss.  Do not use any sharp or pointed instruments.
