Once the first baby tooth comes in and before the first birthday, a dental visit is in order!  This is just a “well-baby checkup” for the teeth.  Your dentist will check for cavities and other problems, but also will show you just how to clean their teeth properly and also how to handle any bad habits like thumb sucking.  Kid Friendly Dentist Queen Creek AZ

It is super important to care for their baby teeth, so here are a few suggestions on what to do!

  • Clean their mouth every day, starting with just a few days after birth.  Just wipe the gums with a clean and moist gauze pad or washcloth.  Once the first teeth appear, decay can start to happen.  The front four teeth will usually begin to appear around 6 months old, but every child is different.  Some teeth do not begin to erupt until 12 or 14 months. #smilewithconfidence
  • If a child is under the age of 3, start brushing the teeth as soon as they come into the mouth.  Use a fluoride baby toothpaste, and just a tiny amount (about the size of a grain of rice).  Brush twice a day, morning and night.  Always supervise a child to make sure they are using the right amount of toothpaste.  Kid Friendly Dentist Queen Creek AZ
  • For children between the ages of 3 to 6, use a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste.  Brush twice a day, again, morning and evening.  Supervise their brushing to make sure they aren’t swallowing the toothpaste. #martindental
  • Until you know for sure there are brushing the right way and WELL, continue to brush their teeth for them.  Once they have two teeth that are touching, it is time to start flossing at least once a day.
