Scottsdale AZ All on 4 Dental Implants

If you are considering All-on-4 Dental Implants, here are some common post-surgery issues you may experience in the days after surgery.  Also, a few tips on how to deal with these issues when or if they arise! #smilewithconfidence

Persistent Bleeding

If you have bleeding that doesn’t stop, this means you may be biting down on the gauze packs and they aren’t covering the surgical areas well.  Try repositioning the gauze!  If this doesn’t do anything and the bleeding does not stop, try sitting upright, avoid any physical activity and put ice packs on the outside of the mouth.

You can also try biting down on an ice pack for an hour or even a moist black tea bag for 30 minutes.  If this does not help, call your dentist for an appointment. Scottsdale AZ All on 4 Dental Implants

Swelling

Swelling is a normal part of any surgery.  The climax of swelling usually happens around day 2 or 3 after the procedure.  Use ice or a cold pack and put on the cheek within 24 hours after the procedure.  This can help control the swelling.  Try 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off.  Your dentist may prescribe medication, too.

Pain

You can’t avoid pain when dealing with surgery.  You should receive a prescription for pain medicine from your dentist.  Take it as directed.  This should help to decrease the discomfort.  If you feel like you need more medicine to control pain, just speak to your dentist. Scottsdale AZ All on 4 Dental Implants

Restricted Diet

If food you are eating causes discomfort, you should probably avoid it.  It’s also best to stay away from hard foods, candies, or very hot foods.  Chewing anything following service is not recommended if the sensation in your tongue has not returned. #martindental Your best bet is to consume only liquids or pureed foods for the first few days following surgery.  Make sure you are getting proper nutrition, it is crucial to your healing.
