It is never too early to get kids on the right direction for their dental hygiene.  A child’s teeth are at risk of decay as soon as they erupt, which is typically within the first year of their life. #martindental According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, tooth decay in children is the most common chronic children’s disease in the country!  If tooth decay is not dealt with, it can result in tooth loss.  Here is some good news, though!  Tooth decay is totally preventable!  Here are some basic guidelines to establish in their young life to establish good dental health and hygiene. San Tan Valley AZ Affordable Dentist

Primary Tooth Eruption

Always check your child’s teeth.  The first primary tooth usually erupts between 6 and 9 months of age.  By 3 years of age, a child should have 20 primary teeth. #smilewithconfidence If one tooth hasn’t erupted by 9 months of age, speak to a pediatrician.  Healthy primary teeth will be white and not have any spots of stains.  Healthy gums will be smooth and pink.  If the teeth are spotty or stained, speak to your dentist right away.  The ADA recommends that a child see the dentist six months after the first tooth has appeared. San Tan Valley AZ Affordable Dentist

Cleaning Primary Teeth

From the time a baby is born, their gums should be gently wiped daily with a clean baby washcloth.  When the first tooth comes in, start using a baby toothbrush and water.  The best time for brushing their teeth is after breakfast and right before bedtime.  Twice a day! San Tan Valley AZ Affordable Dentist
